Show # 10 – Do You Ever Feel Like You Weren’t Cut Out For Parenting?
 January 25, 2008

Oh my gosh I can’t believe I forgot to post this on Tuesday! I’m so sorry.

This week I talk about how lately she has been struggling with feeling inadequate as a mom and wondering if I was really cut out for this parenting thing. Caleb can be very challenging and I’m facing some issues with Caleb not only at home but in school as well.

Listen in as I talk about the decisions I am having to face about Caleb and his living arrangements. Listen in as I talk about his ADHD and the medication issues.

What is your take on all this ADHD/ADD stuff? Do you think it’s a real ‘issue’ or just a ‘label’ that people, especially teachers, put on kids?

Leave your comments here or better yet call into the guest line and leave a comment! The # is (214) 615-6505 ext 1385

Have a great week!

Hey… did you know that Mary lost Jesus? So if Mary, the mother of JESUS CHRIST, had trouble with her son, then you shouldn’t feel bad.

I hate the label of ADHD… but I do feel that some kids have chemical imbalances. I’ve had trouble with the label and currently, I’m not doing ANYTHING about Sam because of that label. But what the counselor said to me was that Sam knows that she’s different from other kids and I bet Caleb feels that way too.

I’m praying for you. I don’t know the answer. Maybe a behavioral therapist?

As for meds? I’ve heard Omega fish oil works wonders (but I’ve not tried it)… but apparently it works for ADHD.

Seriously, I’m praying for you. :D Hang in there. I feel the same, same way that you do about my daughter. We can vent if you want… :D

Thank You Heather for your comments. I agree with what you said about the label of ADHD but you feel some kids do have chemical imbalances. Yes yes yes. I agree. Caleb definitely has some sort of imbalance. I have watched him try to sit still before & he literally looks like he will climb out of his skin if he’s not shaking his leg, picking at his hands, playing with his hair, etc. He has to be moving something at all times.

I’m sorry to hear you are going through some problems with Sam but I really respect and commend you for sticking to your gun & NOT putting her on medicine!

hey i have been listening to your radio blogs and really neat stuff… i think that you have great topics and have alot to say… i wish ya luck and getting more out there… and have more people listen to you!

on the topic of ADHD omg so over rated… in this school area, alone…you would be surprized how many teachers and people that work for the schools say ” oh your child has ADHD… its very upsetting…. I have three kids and all three kids are very different from each other anf all very smart but yet they think my kids are ADHD…. this is a lable for those who can not handle kids…. now don’t get me wrong… yes this may be a case in some children… but the fact of the matter is…. learn what it is… not just lable kids!!!
I’m a preschool teacher’s aid and do the bus aid here for headstart here in Gaylord… and i work with kids all day long and love my job….and i can sit here and say… kids will be kids….and they are all great….but ya have to love your job to work with kids….its not easy some days… but a joy at each day…

but to put a bug into your ear… i really need to talk to my boss… we have meetings each month for the headstart program for the parents… and with the topics that you do have… I would like to see if I can get you into a meeting…time frames are the thing… but I’ll see what i can do!!!

thanks for your sharing of the great topics… keep up that great work and good luck to you!!!

IBEING A PARENT BEING MARRIED OR NOT IS A TOUGH JOB… ITS A FULL TIME JOB….AND NO MATTER IF YA THINK THAT YOU ARE NOT CUT OUT… WHO IS REALLY…. ITS A MATTER OF BEING A PARENT AND DOING THE BEST THAT YOU CAN…..NO ONE IS PERFECT AND AT TIMES YA MAY FEEL THAT YOU WON’T GET IT RIGHT… BUT YA LEARN AS YOU GO ALONG… I HAVE HTREE KIDS AND THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT IN MANY WAYS….I CALL MY MOM AND ASK HER “HOW DID YA DO THIS RAISING FOUR KIDS” “HOW DID YOU GET THROUGH EACH DAY” AND AT TIMES I ASK HER… WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO HANDLE IT… YES SHE SAY THINGS LIKE ” HUNNY… YA HAVE TO LIVE AND LEARN AND DEAL WITH EACH DAY!” I LAUGH BUT WOW SHE IS RIGHT…. ITS THOSE DAYS YA WANT TO FALL PART AND CLIMB UNDER A ROCK…. BUT WHEN YA LOOK INTO THOSE KIDS EYES…. I KNOW THAT I’LL MAKE IT!!!

WHAT HELPS IS TALKING TO OTHER MOMS…. GET ADVICE AND SHARE ADVICE…. GET TOGETHER AND HAVE A DAY OF COFFEE AND TEA…. MAKE SOME TIME FOR OTHER MOMS AND PLAY GROUPS ARE A GREAT THING.
