  September is ADHD Month
 September 28, 2007

September is almost over now so I guess I should of had my head out of the clouds and posted this earlier. But hey the saying better late than never can pertain to my blog posting too :-)

The first time I heard ADHD I didn’t know what it meant. All I knew was that someone was telling me that there was something wrong with my baby.

ADHD isn’t as serious as other things (thank goodness) but it’s still been a pretty long road with Caleb. It has such a negative impact on my son’s life because of the school labeling him as a ‘problem’ child and other kids picking on him because he can’t concentrate or sit still and thus getting in trouble all the time.

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition that becomes apparent in some children in the preschool and early school years. It is hard for these children to control their behavior and/or pay attention. It is estimated that between 3 and 5 percent of children have ADHD, or approximately 2 million children in the United States. This means that in a classroom of 25 to 30 children, it is likely that at least one will have ADHD.

And that one child has been my son ever since he started school several years ago. It’s been a hard road to walk but the both of us keep putting one foot in front of the other and taking it one day at a time.

So you can imagine I’ll be talking a lot about Caleb and his ADHD and the journey we’ve been through since he was first diagnosed back in 2002 (maybe it was 2003 I can’t remember now).

Have to Give a Shout Out!
 September 19, 2007

I have to give a shout out to a couple different people for a couple different reasons.

1. Carrie Lauth of Natural Moms Talk Radio for suggesting Single Moms Talk Radio! Thanks Carrie :-)

2. Jen Houck of Blue Ridge Virtual Assistance for my awesome design here! She totally ROCKS and I highly recommend her :-)

I’m excited about about the launch of the show – my goal was to have it launched by Monday September 24th but I just got my new computer and it took a really long time (yes I’m totally non-techie!) to get it hooked up so I’m about a day-n-half behind on work and everything. Plus I have to get the software I use for podcasting downloaded onto this computer now….so my goal is still to launch next week but probably not until the end of the week.

  Introduction
 September 12, 2007

Many of you know me already from the Work at Home Mom community and some of the podcasts from the Moms Radio Network. But for those of you that don’t, let me introduce myself :-)

My name is Tishia Lee and I’m a 30 something single work at home mom to one child. My son is 8 years old (actually he will be 9 on the 22nd of the month). We live in Northern Michigan around many friends and family. I’ve been a single mom since six days before Caleb’s first birthday! It’s been a difficult journey but definitely not one that I would ever change for anything.

I’m learning that parenting is hard work both phsyically and emotionally but add into that scenario doing it all on your own and it’s an even bigger challenge. And if single parenting wasn’t enough, God just had to bless me with an ADHD child.

Some days I feel like throwing in the towel and giving up. There are days that I feel like I’m not cut out for parenting especially days like when the toilet over flowed because Caleb used to much toilet paper & I was slipping and sliding (literally) in ankle deep toilet water (I didn’t own a plunger until after that experience!).

So that’s where Single Moms Talk Radio comes in. This show is going to be used as my venting vessel. There are those days that I just need to rant and rave and talking to a microphone might just do the trick to give me my sanity back ;-)

I look forward to sharing not only my experiences in the single mom world but other single moms too!

All I Want for My Birthday is…
 September 10, 2007

not my two front teeth but an iPod Nano, a new bike and a PSP.

Evidently my son thinks money grows on trees because those 3 items right there add to a very large chunk of change! Oh how I miss the days when he was a toddler and happy with cheap toys.

It seems as he gets older his taste gets more expensive. And what I can’t figure out is why on earth my son (or probably every other kid on this planet) thinks he needs a handheld playstation (the PSP) when he has a regular playstation 2.

And then there is the bike issue. He has one but the chain rusted out and because we don’t have storage to store it in for the winter it got pretty beat up and rusted out pretty good. Of course he wants this fancy stunt bike with pegs on it so that he can do…well stunts. LOL. Just one more thing to add to my already grey growing head of hair!

So what’s left?

Ah the MP3 player! That famous iPod nano. I put off buying one last year for Christmas when he begged and begged and begged some more for one. I was convinced that it was unnecessary for him at such a young age. Have you ever seen the Nano? It’s reallly cute and quite the nifty little gadget. So I thought this year would be a good year to buy it for him. You see it’s a win/win situation. He gets what he wants and I have a new workout buddy! Why not kill two birds with one stone?
